How to Prepare for Pallet Collections

How to Prepare for Pallet Collections

When you shipping goods by pallet, you need to understand how to prepare for pallet collections. Here’s what to do.

Wrap the Pallet for the Pallet Delivery Service

Wrapping the pallet is vitally important. If the pallet collection service believes that the pallet is unstable, it may insist that you secure it before it takes it away.

The good news is that wrapping a pallet is easy. All you need is a supply of pallet wrap stretch film rolls.

Make Sure that the Goods Are Stable and Centred

When the collection company picks up your pallet, they’ll want you to have packed it so that they can pick it up in any orientation without there being a risk that it falls over. You should pack your pallet, therefore, in a way which makes the goods stable and centred.

Arrange items so that they take up as much space on the surface of the pallet as possible. Try to avoid any overhanging boxes or materials.

Affix a Label On the Side

Industry uses pallet labels to define the contents of the pallet. Many companies use internationally recognised pallet labelling standards such as an SSCC number, and GS1-128 barcodes which include a GTIN - Global Trade Item Number.

Use Extra Cardboard To Add Strength

It’s good practice to add a flat layer of cardboard if you’re stacking boxes high on the pallet. This helps to add more support and increases vertical stacking strength. It's also useful for solidifying any loose boxes on top.
