How e-commerce is shaping the foreseeable future of LTL freight

The pandemic shows us that, not only is online shopping the future but even in the most harrowing of circumstances, it's the least affected type of purchasing. Therefore, businesses will see it not just as a formality, but as a necessity. This is going to put immense pressure on the freight industry.

LTL freight or less-than-load freight will need to become the norm. You have to keep up with the demand from e-commerce and you won’t be able to wait until all your fleet is loaded and ready to go. You quite literally have to fight an uphill battle. Just getting the most products out to customers, in the least amount of time will need to become a mindset shift.

Freight is already competing against drones that can drop packages into customers’ gardens safely. So, businesses should start looking into using freight services that are less expensive than it costs them to operate their own fleet. Alternatively, you could use state of the art technology to combat soaring costs. This could be implementing machine learning, buying fleets that are less expensive to run such as all-electric vehicles, or simply change your delivery schedules and routes to suit the needs of the changing landscape. LTL freight has a bright future, but the challenges that could become threats are right in front of it now, perhaps more than ever due to the pandemic.

Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions you might have. This is our bread and butter so we’d love to hear from you, and help in any way we can.
