Draining all the Fluids
Engines require oils and other fluids to keep them running optimally. Unfortunately, these fluids that make engines work can also cause problems for those collecting and transporting them. It’s vital, therefore, that you drain all of the fluids from any engine you’re sending away to prevent damage to logistic plant and vehicles.
Preventing Leakage
Engines have a nasty habit of leaking during transportation. Most engines provide leak-free operation so long as they are the correct orientation. Change their position, and fluids can quickly leak out and spread out all over the place. Petroleum-based fluids are particularly hard to clean up and can cause irreparable damage.
If possible, try to prevent leakage of your engine by first draining it, and then plug any potential leak sites. Plugging leak sites will prevent any flammable or harmful engine fluids leaking out over the pallet and truck floor.
Positioning the Engine
Engines are heavy. If you’re shipping an engine on a pallet, be sure to make sure that it’s centred and close to the pallet base (not stacked high on top of other items). Your aim should be to keep the centre of gravity as low as possible to minimise the risk of it toppling over.
Stabilising the Engine
Pallet delivery is one of the most cost-effective methods of sending an engine in the UK. You can stabilise an engine collection on a pallet using nylon ties and cords.
