Indeed, the first testing will begin next year and while there are arguments both for and against this development, it is an exciting prospect.

The main tech behind this development is truck platooning. The tech allows the vehicles to connect and communicate wirelessly, providing information on when to both brake or accelerate. 

Testing of the tech will occur in various stages with the initial focus being on whether the tech is suitable for roads across the UK.

There are certainly advantages to using this tech. Since the trucks are able to brake immediately, it can ensure that the roads are safer for all users. As well as this, the tech ensures that the trucks can maintain a near constant speed. This means that there will be significant cost savings. The trucks also do not need to rely on the responses of drivers, thus eliminating the issue of human error. 

Is It Suitable For UK Roads?

There is some debate as to whether the platoon of trucks will make it more difficult for drivers to enter and exit motorways. Some experts suggest it could also lead to difficulties with drivers being able to see road signs. However, these issues will likely be ironed out during the testing phase.
